Why do I need a limescale inhibitor?
Limescale - Just like the build up of scale on the element in your kettle, a similar process occurs in your central heating system. And just like your kettle it gets furry. This reduces the efficiency of your heating system. To stop this happening we can fit a limescale inhibitor. As you might expect, it's designed to inhibit the formation of limescale.
Why would I want a magnetic water filter?
Iron Oxide is the reason. Your central heating system is made of metal - mostly. The water in the central heating system corrodes the metal in your heating system, like radiators and produces Iron Oxide. The Iron Oxide, also known as Magnetite, bonds with other corroded debris in the system to form thick sludge deposits. The deposits stick to the internal components of the boiler such as the heat exchanger and inside the pipework itself. As time goes by, the heating system starts to become less efficient, the internal parts have to work harder, get worn out and eventually your boiler breaks down. Hard water, as we have in London, accelerates the process.
And so, we fit a magnetic water filter. It's a fairly simple device attached to a radiator. Magnetite is attracted to the magnets and sticks to the filter and is effectively removed from the central heating system.
Magnaclean, Fernox, Liff Magnetic filters
- Removes almost 100% of suspended black iron oxide
- Prevents sludge deposits
- No running costs
- Increases boiler efficiency
- Increases central heating system lifespan

An interesting propositon?
The Government has carried out tests on magnetic water filters. Probably to ensure that magnetic water filter manufacturers aren't making up the results of their own tests! They came to the conclusion that they do increase the efficiency of heating systems. And by an average of 12%. So, if an average annual fuel bill is anywhere from £900 to £1600 - and rising, that makes an annual saving of between £108 and £216. As a magnetic filter costs around 200 to supply and fit, you'll see a return on your investment in just a year. Older systems have shown an even higher increase in efficiency. |

If I'm honest when the plumber suggested installing a magnetic water filter, I thought it was a swizz, so I said no! But I've read up noew and I think it's a good idea. Can you come back and put one on for me?
